Setting Up An Efficient And Comfortable Home Office

If you're changing to a work from home lifestyle or want a home office to catch up on certain deadlines, a home office is vital. In addition to the tools needed to do your job, you need to have an environment that blocks out distractions while keeping you comfortable enough to get the job done. Here are a few office setup details to help you arrange your home office without requiring too much time on design.

Comfortable Isolation

A key part of home office design is getting rid of distractions. The easiest way to obtain some semblance of peace from the outside world as you work is to have a separate room, but not everyone can afford a home with multiple rooms. Even if you have a spare room, there may be a lot of distractions in the area that could take away from your working mood.

It's time to take a page from cubicles. Yes, the boards and risers that have come to signify a working class nightmare. The issue isn't that they exist, but that they're used to a somewhat dystopian level for the sake of corralling multiple employees while saving space.

If you dislike cubicles, you may be surprised to learn that a little bit of restriction under your control can be amazing. Many people are distracted by pets, the mess in their room, or some other chores that need to be done. By putting up a few cubicle walls with as much distance as you want, you can block off these distractions.

People who have a problem with cubicles can even enjoy some self-empowerment by taking control of these once restrictive furniture pieces and arranging them as necessary, and even using better materials than just drab carpet padding and cork board.

Office Technology And Saving Space

The average home office needs a computer, printer, scanner, and copier. Although many home printers and copiers have all-in-one features to combine all of these options, many high volume paperwork professionals need a separate copier, separate scanner, and possibly a separate printer for certain high quality prints.

Are you concerned about saving space? Your best bet is to buy a copier and every other device from the same vendor, and look for a model that stacks. Modular print devices can save a lot of space by taking up the horizontal space of one device and going straight up for everything else.

If you already have a few devices and just need an additional, large-sized printer, use it as a partition instead of the cubicle wall idea previously. Look for a model that is flat and can be upgraded with a mount of some sort, and use it to hold your paperwork or other office materials.

Contact a copier, printer, and general home office equipment professional to get help with your design.
